Dr. Douglas Williams

Surf City Optometry is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Douglas Williams. 

Dr. Williams has retired from private practice, but will continue to serve as a clinical consultant to the Low Vision Center of Excellence at Surf City Optometry. Dr. Williams is well known for his expertise in the field of Low Vision Rehabilitation. This is an optometric specialty that is dedicated to caring for the visually impaired or the partially sighted. Patients with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, genetic or age related eye diseases may benefit from a low vision evaluation. Low vision devices provide magnification, lighting, and contrast to maximize the use of any remaining vision, and to helps to maintain self independence and quality of life. 

Dr. Williams is a graduate of Southern California College of Optometry, Marshall B. Ketchum University, where he was a Clinical Professor and Director of Low Vision Services for 38 years. He served on various national committees, authored numerous articles, and lectured extensively on Low Vision Rehabilitation. After serving as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, he opened his office in Huntington Beach in 1971. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry and is Past Chair of the Low Vision Section.
