Everyone's eyes are unique! Conventional contact lenses may not be a good fit for your eyes or lifestyle. Our doctors work with you to fit you in lenses with the best combination of vision and comfort. Below are subset of the specialty contact lenses that we offer.
RGP contact lenses are made of a special type of hard plastic that still allows the passage of oxygen to the eyes. RGP lenses are even more permeable to oxygen than conventional soft contact lenses! This material is durable and resists deposits and bacteria which allow them to last longer than soft lenses. This type of lens are recommended for people who have high astigmatism or have irregularities of the cornea.
Scleral lenses are named after the sclera, or whites of the eyes. These lenses are designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the sclera. By covering a wide section of the eye, scleral lenses can help smooth an irregular cornea to help correct vision problems caused by irregular astigmatism or corneal conditions like keratoconus.
Due to the way these lenses sit against the eye, fluid can collect in the space between the contact lens and eye surface. This reservoir continuously bathes the cornea which can help provide relief for people with severe ocular surface disease or severe dry eye disease.
This lens combines the visual clarity of a rigid gas permeable contact lens with the comfort of a conventional soft contact lens. This is achieved with a lens designed with a center made of RGP lens material with an outer skirt made of soft lens material.
Myopia (nearsightedness) is a vision problem that impacts the ability to see distances clearly. Our doctors at Surf City Optometry use both soft contact lenses (Misight) and Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses to help achieve the best vision possible while greatly limiting the progression of myopia, especially during childhood development. We base our recommendations on the latest research, years of experience, and your individual comfort.
